Geology

Seeps certainly appear along the cracked crests of the seafloor anticlines. Studies have been done to determine whether or not seafloor deposits of sand and silt could impede seep rates and distribution.

The overburden page at right shows how the distribution of seeps relate to the local sediment thickness taken from dart-core data.

The general geologic cross section shows the seafloor struture and seep locations.

Shallow seismic reflection, dart (gravity) core, oil well and bedding attitude data were used to interpret the study area geology.
